Captured on four DVDs are the exciting performances and stunning pageantry of the 2006 MERRIE MONARCH FESTIVAL; the spectacular kahiko (ancient) and superb `auana (contemporary) performances from each halau, as well as the Miss Aloha Hula competition. The Merrie Monarch Festival is truly an inspiring display of Hawaiian dance and culture to be thoroughly enjoyed over and over again.

This limited-edition 4-DVD set includes the entire 43rd Annual Merrie Monarch Festival, interviews, and highlights from the Merrie Monarch Festival's annual parade. For forty-three years, thousands of the best hula halau from all across the Hawaiian islands and USA mainland have been invited to the prestigious Merrie Monarch Festival. Dancers who are fortunate enough to perform at this annual event perpetuate an important cultural tradition that celebrates and honors their ancestors.

Hundreds make the trek to Hilo, Hawai`i every year to witness in person the magnificence of the dance and storytelling. For others who long to be a part of the passion and beauty, KITV 4 broadcasts the festival live.
