Album Notes

A TRADITIONAL HAWAIIAN, by music veteran Kawai Cockett, is a new collection of na mele Maoli -- songs of native Hawaiians. These are songs which reflect the true spirit of being Hawaiian.

At a time when others are experimenting with Hawaiian music, Kawai Cockett remains true to his roots, singing in the "classical" Hawaiian style. Backed by the Lei Kukui Serenaders, Kawai accompanies himself on `ukulele in trademark fashion...singing with his na`au (gut), and giving from his pu`uwai (heart).
