O'Brian Eselu began his career as a comic hula dancer with a local lu`au show, followed by a career as an accomplished musician regularly singing as part of a Hawaiian trio. Later, he was chosen by a kupuna to learn the art of hula in the traditional Hawaiian way. Today, Eselu is recognized as one of Hawaii's foremost kumu hula, winning many awards for his "bombastic" style of hula at the Merrie Monarch Hula Competition each year.
Eselu takes to the stage whether as a kumu hula with his powerful style, or as a dazzling entertainer who lights up the stage with his smile and gracious demeanor. After launching his singing career with his album KE KUMU, Eselu won the 1998 Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Most Promising Artist. |
