Hapa-haole (part foreign) music was popularized by local entertainers to satisfy Hawaii's burgeoning tourist industry of the 1930s and 1940s. For many of those tourists, this was the only music they connected with he islands. The music is lovely, the instrumentation distinctly Hawaiian, and the primarily English lyrics understood by most.
