The album is a tribute to Cindy's unique style, showcasing her great arrangements of several Hawaiian classics and composers, as well as three of her original compositions.
It is Cindy at her best: Rich, deep, nuanced and passionate.
Slack Key tunings included for all songs
A message from Cindy:
I am pleased to announce the release of my 5th CD entitled 'Moonrise Music' on my own Pulelehua Music label. It showcases 11 tracks (one medley) of solo slack key guitar performances.
Produced by myself and George Winston, the recording was done over several years of time. I have recorded for Dancing Cat Records from 1996 to the present day and some of those recordings can be heard on my previous releases 'Slack Key Lady' and 'Sunny Rain'. I also have one studio album called 'Land of the Endless Summer' and a solo project called 'Kiss Those Blues Goodbye'.
All but 2 of the tracks were recorded by Rusty Faraldi whom I met at church during the Princess Ka'iulani Festival in 2013. 'Ku'ulei 'Awapuhi' was recorded in 2013 by Shawn Livingston Moseley and 'Tender Shepherd / Over the Rainbow' was recorded in 2001 by Howard Johnston.
'Moonrise Music' is a collection of some of my favorite slack key tunes like 'Maori Brown Eyes', 'My Yellow Ginger Lei', and 'The Hula Blues'; songs I have been playing and perfecting for years at various gigs.
The title track is original as well as 'Ka 'Eleweka' and 'Po Lani'. The one hymn I offer is 'Pa Nahe Mai La Ko Iesu Kahea' (Softly & Tenderly) inspired by my childhood memories and tenure as Music Director of HHCC.
'Moonrise Music' is 'easy listening'. I take it as a compliment when someone tells me they fell asleep listening to my music.
I also enjoyed painting the moon rise for the cover art.
